How does Contest Flashback work?

Written by Jordan Chand

Contest Flashback re-simulates a finished DraftKings contest using the lineups everyone actually entered, so you can see how profitable each lineup was regardless of how that one night went.

The next day after a contest ends, SaberSim collects every real lineup from it and runs the slate 100,000 times using its play-by-play game simulations. Each lineup is scored and paid out in every run, and the average is its Flashback ROI. Because the field is the real one rather than a projection, Flashback ROI is the most accurate measure of whether a lineup was a good bet in that contest.

One night's result is mostly variance. A strong lineup loses most nights, and a weak one sometimes wins. Running the slate 100,000 times strips that out and shows what the lineup was actually worth.

You can view your combined Flashback Sim EV and Flashback ROI across all your contests in the upper left of any past DraftKings slate. If you don’t see it, ensure that it is toggled on in the settings:

To open it, go to the Contest tab on any past DraftKings slate and click the contest name. Large contests can take a while to load. The Users tab ranks everyone in the contest by Flashback ROI and the Leaderboard tab will show individual lineups.

Contest Flashback is available for DraftKings contests only.
