How do I build lineups on SaberSim?

Written by Jordan Chand

Pick your slate, upload your entries file, build on default settings, review what SaberSim gives you, adjust, then save and upload.

Select the slate. Click Add Slate or the plus button. Click the date window to move to a different day, then choose the sport, site, and slate.

Upload your entries file. Register for your contests on the DFS site first. Then click the upload button in the top corner, download the template file from your site through the popup, and upload it to SaberSim. This ties the lineups you build to the contests you've entered, and makes entering them faster and more accurate.

Lineup groups. SaberSim creates lineup groups, which are essentially folders for your lineups that are attached to your contests.

Build lineups. Click Build Lineups. On DraftKings, make two small changes to player projections first, since DraftKings requires it. Don't change anything else on your first build. SaberSim simulates every game on the slate play by play, thousands of times, and builds lineups directly from those simulations, so stacking and correlation are already there without any rules.

Contest Sims. After building lineups, your lineups will be graded and ranked by either Saber Score (on Starter) or Sim ROI (on Ultimate). These contest sims grade your lineups inside simulated versions of the contests you're playing, because a single-entry and a large-field GPP need different lineups.

Diversification. The Portfolio Diversifier runs next. It spreads your entries across different outcomes so you aren't all-in on a few players or one way the slate could go.

Review and revise. Look at the exposure column, which is the percentage of your lineups with each player, and the leverage column, which is your exposure minus the field's projected ownership. Find where you're most over or under the field and decide whether that matches how you want to play the slate. This is where your own research comes in.

Adjust exposures. Adjust exposures based on your takes for players, team stacks, and stack types. If your requests can't be met, rebuild and SaberSim generates a new pool with your adjustments included.

Iterate. Build, review, revise, and rebuild as needed. Each pass gets your portfolio closer to your read of the slate.

Save and upload. Click Save All, download the updated entries file, and upload it to your DFS site. The name of the file you upload should begin with “entries_[site initials]” (ex: “entries_dk_” for Draftkings or “entries_fd_” for FanDuel). If you receive errors upon uploading, double check that the file you’re uploading begins with that naming pattern. After uploading your file, your entries update with the new lineups.

If you're new to SaberSim, watch the Saber School intro video that matches how you play before your first slate. It teaches this process in full.
